Cheese Wedding Cake FAQs
Why choose The West Country Cheese Company?

We’ve been creating cheese wedding cakes for over a decade, so we know which cheeses work together to build a beautifully balanced, stable and great‑tasting cake. We focus on farmhouse and artisan cheeses in prime condition and help you choose a combination that will please all your guests, from adventurous cheese lovers to those who prefer something more traditional. We also advise on how to make your cake look stunning on the day and can design something completely unique if you wish. Above all, we pride ourselves on friendly, reliable customer service – we understand how important your wedding day is and will support you with your cheese cake every step of the way.
Can I try the cheeses before I order?

Yes. If you’re unsure which cheeses to choose, you can order a Cheese Wedding Cake Tasting Box. From £36.99 (including postage) you’ll receive samples of up to five cheeses of your choice, and we’ll refund £10.00 when you go on to place a cheese wedding cake order. If you’d like to try more than five cheeses, we simply add £3.50 for each additional cheese. Tasting boxes are sent by courier from Tuesday to Friday and will need someone in to sign for the delivery. Just tell us your preferred delivery date at checkout.
What cheeses can I have in my cake?
We’ll help you pick some favourites while making sure you have a good balance of flavours and textures, for example a mix of mellow, mature, blue and soft cheeses. Wherever possible we use farmhouse and artisan cheeses and can recommend selections built around traditional classics or more unusual finds. For larger gatherings we can add a generous 6–8 kg cheddar base under any of the cakes on our site, ideal for parties of around 160–200+ guests. For smaller weddings, we usually suggest a slightly smaller cake and then extra pieces of the cheeses used in the top tiers, so everyone has the chance to taste all the different cheeses rather than ending up with a mountain of cheddar.
What if there’s a cheese I don’t like in one of your cakes?
That’s no problem at all. We’re very happy to tweak any of our existing cakes or build something completely bespoke. If there’s a cheese you’d prefer to swap (or one you especially want to include), just let us know – we can change a single cheese or design a fully personalised cake to suit your tastes and theme.
How much cheese will I need?
As a guide, allow about 70–100 g of cheese per person if you’re serving it as an after‑dinner course. If the cheese wedding cake will be the main feature of your evening food, we recommend at least 100 g per person and a little extra to be on the safe side.
What can I serve with my cheese cake?

We offer a range of accompaniments chosen to pair beautifully with your cake. You can add chutneys, pickles, and marinated figs, as well as boxes of catering crackers that are both excellent quality and great value. These make it easy to turn your cheese wedding cake into a complete evening buffet.
When should I place my order?
Ideally, please give us at least two weeks’ notice so we can order, prepare and condition your cheeses perfectly for your date. If your wedding is sooner than that, don’t panic – we often fulfil last‑minute orders and usually have a good selection available. You’re also very welcome to order well in advance and specify your preferred delivery date in the special instructions box at checkout. We will always confirm your order and delivery date by email and then get back in touch closer to the time to reassure you that everything is booked and in hand. If you’d like, you can also email us and arrange to pay by BACS.
Where and when do you deliver?
We offer nationwide delivery and can send your cheese wedding cake to your home, caterer or chosen venue. For weekend weddings we deliver on the Thursday at the latest, and often earlier if you prefer – we don’t deliver on Fridays to avoid any risk of courier delays affecting your big day. For other orders we deliver Tuesday to Friday by next‑day overnight courier. Timed deliveries before midday are available for an additional charge. All parcels are fully trackable, and if you provide a mobile number you’ll receive a text with a one‑hour delivery window. We can also deliver to the Highlands and Islands; some of these addresses require a two‑day service, so we’ll quote for this separately.
How will my order arrive?
Your Wedding Cheese Cake or Cheese & Pork Pie Cake will arrive in a sturdy brown outer box, with ice packs to keep everything cool for up to 48 hours. The box will be clearly labelled with our branding and a “please refrigerate upon arrival” message, so venues or alternative addresses know it contains chilled goods. Inside, we use bubble wrap or paper straw for protection, and each cheese and pie is individually wrapped and clearly labelled. For practical reasons, your cake will arrive unstacked and undecorated, but we include all decorations you have ordered in the box. Every cheese cake also comes with a specification sheet showing a picture of your cake (or the closest possible match for bespoke designs), a list of the cheeses and straightforward assembly instructions you can pass to your venue, caterer, family member or friend.
How should I store and serve the cheese?
We normally deliver at least two days before your event. You or your venue will need to keep all cheeses (and pies) refrigerated until the day. Leave them individually wrapped until you’re ready to assemble the cake. On the day, unwrap, stack and decorate your cake at the venue; the cheeses will be fine out of the fridge for four to five hours somewhere cool. For the best flavour and texture, allow at least two hours at room temperature before serving so the larger cheeses can warm up properly.
Do you provide boards and decorations?

Yes. Alongside the cheese we offer a range of accessories to help you present your cake beautifully. These include raffia, slate and wooden hearts, our characterful clay mice and solid round wood boards (from 12 inches upwards). We’ve also added a Mango Wood Pizza Board which makes a lovely base for your cake and a stylish keepsake for entertaining afterwards. You’ll find all of these under our wedding cake accessories section, or you can simply ask us to add them to your order.
When and how do I pay?
If you order online, you pay for your cake at the time of ordering through our secure checkout. If you’d rather speak to a human, we’re very happy to take payment by phone or arrange payment by email and BACS. Just let us know what’s easiest for you.
