The journey begins with “A Cheesemonger’s Compendium of British and Irish Cheese” by Ned Palmer, a celebrated guide to the cheeses of the UK and Ireland. Known for its depth, warmth, and humour, and full of beautiful illustrations, the book is an engaging companion for anyone curious about cheese-making.

Following the book’s arrival, either three or five exceptional cheeses are delivered each month, all featured within its pages. With every bite, your recipient will gain a deeper understanding of the cheeses’ origins, character, and craftsmanship, transforming them from cheese enthusiast to well-informed aficionado.

The subscription box has been a wonderfully popular gift over the years, and we thought it’d be brilliant to combine the book with the cheese subscription to create a journey around the British Isles. The book comes first, it's the perfect present to be opened on Christmas Day, and then each month we’ll send a box of delicious cheeses. 

The first box will be delivered during the week commencing January 12th.

HOW WE WORK

Pick your subscription and choose the delivery date for the book when you checkout.  Each box thereafter will arrive around the same date each delivery month, although rest assured a subscription letter will be sent to the recipient with the dates the cheese boxes are due to arrive and these dates can be amended at any time if it doesn't suit.

Will my cheese stay fresh during delivery?

Absolutely! Your cheese box includes highly effective chill packs to keep everything fresh and

delicious right through to delivery. It’ll be perfect whether you pop it straight in the fridge or dive in immediately.

What if I’m not home for delivery?

No worries, your cheese will be left in your designated safe place, just as requested by you or the

recipient. With our cold packs, your cheese stays in prime condition for up to 48 hours, so you and

your cheese are well taken care of.

I bought cheese as a gift, what if my safe place isn’t ideal?

If you provide the recipient’s mobile or email, they’ll get delivery notifications and can add their own

safe place instructions. For surprise gifts, it’s often best to enter your details, but either way you’re in

the clear.

How should I store leftovers?

Cheese should be wrapped in its original or wax paper and kept in its own fridge compartment,

avoiding the coldest spots. Clingfilm is also fine. Keep blue cheese away from other foods, and allow

all cheese to come to room temperature for 1–2 hours before serving for the fullest flavour.

I have a subscription, but I’ll be away on delivery day—what should I do?

No need to pick between cheese and your break! Just contact us to adjust your delivery date—we’ll

make sure your cheese arrives when you’re ready.

How do I recycle my packaging?

We use minimal, thoughtful packaging to protect your cheese, and much of it can be recycled. The

cardboard outer box can go with all cardboard, the shred can be composted, even the ice packs can

be safely emptied and the packaging recycled!

The West Country Cheese Co. was founded in 2007 by two individuals with a passion for great food and, in particular, cheese, the West Country Cheese Co. has grown to become one of the leading retailers of online gifts and cheese celebration cakes.

We are located on the rugged North Cornwall coast, just a few hundred metres from the beach with our two children and our dog Barney. When we are not brainstorming ideas, talking cheese, packing boxes or furiously typing bespoke quotes, you’ll find us reading, cooking some good food, and walking along the coastal path with the rest of the family. 

We have worked hard to create a large range of gift boxes, and hampers, as well as wedding and celebration cheese cakes. Our bespoke service also enables our customers to create something truly individual. In 2017, we launched our most unique range of Pork Pie & Wedding Cheese Cakes, a beautiful mix of delicious cheese and tasty award winning pies.  A match made in heaven! To date, we continue to expand our range and create delicious cheese wedding and celebration cakes for customers across the UK.

Delivery & Tracking

Choose your ideal date. Note: We do NOT deliver cakes on a FRIDAY! This is to mitigate the risk, however small, of a delay that could affect you receiving your order in time for your event.

All orders, unless otherwise stated are packaged in simple brown outer boxes with special ice packs to preserve the cheese temperature. We us either bubble wrap for our larger cheese cake orders or paper straw for protection in transit unless otherwise stated. For cheese cakes, a spec sheet is included with your order which gives a picture of your cake, a list of your cheeses and assembly instructions where required.

For our gift orders, you have the option to purchase a gift box and your order will then be packaged in our attractive gift card boxes with paper straw for protection. If you leave a message at checkout stage, then a gift card with your message will be included with your order.



Delivery times 

For delivery addresses within the United Kingdom, we aim to process ‘ASAP’ order requests within two working days subject to stock availability and no longer than five working days. Otherwise you can specify a delivery date ahead of schedule and we will aim to deliver on this day. Please note outside mainland UK postcodes, please allow an extra day 

For a smooth operation 

Please supply  correct delivery  address including postcode. It is important that this address is accurate. Ideally, we’d like to deliver when the recipient is in.  Please  supply a contact telephone  number for the recipient. Our delivery guys are great, but they’re not mind readers. We want to make sure they can find you, so if difficult to find please help us by giving as much info as possible. We can deliver to any UK home address or place of work. Deliveries will be to the main reception of larger companies. (We cannot be held responsible for their internal distribution, so ensure you really trust your receptionist). As we are delivering perishable products we’ll ask at checkout for instructions for somewhere the package can be left safely without a signature, just in case nobody is in (e.g: shed, with neighbour, under the guard of your cat).  This is particularly important if you are sending a surprise gift .

If you have supplied a mobile no. then you will also receive text notification on the day of delivery which will give you a two hour time slot. Please supply the mobile no. you would like this notification to go to. The delivery can arrive anytime from 8:00am – 6:30pm. If you do not receive text notification or your order doesn’t arrive within the specified time slot given, then do call us asap on: 01271 379944. 

PLEASE NOTE: If you are not in to sign for the order and there are no instructions to leave anywhere safe, your order will go back to the nearest DPD depot to you and will not be delivered until the following day. 

We cannot accept any liability for any loss or damage to the goods once they have been delivered in accordance with your delivery instructions (unless this is caused by our negligence).

Wedding/Party Delivery

Please choose a delivery date at least two days before any wedding/party date. The cheeses will come individually wrapped for you or your venue to pop in the fridge, ready to unwrap, assemble and decorate on the day. Leave out for 1-2 hours to come up to room temperature before eating.

We like you to order well in advance, a minimum of three weeks’ notice is usual, so we are ready here at West Country Cheese to make sure each of the cheeses arrive with you in perfect condition ready for the big event. Don't worry if your wedding/party is sooner than that, however, as we always have a good selection of cheeses in stock and we can accommodate short notice requests without compromising quality.

Please note we do need a minimum of 7-10 days for our Pork Pies as these are handmade to order.

Where we deliver and cost

We deliver our lovely cheese by DPD, who are an overnight carrier.  We deliver Tuesday – Friday. Your cheese will always be cut and packed on the day of dispatch. We always use a next day delivery service, which means your cheese gets to you as fresh as can be. The cost is £7.95 for each address in mainland UK for up to 25kg, perfect for stocking up your cheese stash.  Delivery is free for orders over £95 delivering to one address. DPD are a reputable national overnight courier which pretty much ensures next day delivery to mainland UK only, however this is not 100% guaranteed.  PLEASE NOTE: On occasion, for very large orders, it may be necessary to pack in two boxes to ensure your order gets to you in great condition and we may, therefore, need to ask for an additional box charge of £6

We cannot take responsibility for the length of delivery time once an item has been despatched from us, however we make every effort to help where possible to get your order to you on time and all our orders are trackable

Our 2-3-day delivery service is available for orders to the following postcodes, however these timings are not guaranteed and can be up to 5 days. Delivery to the Scottish Islands incurs a £25 surcharge from the courier due to the nature of it being perishable and requiring a premium service

Cheese Wedding Cake Delivery

We take every precaution to ensure that a Cheese Wedding Cake or a cake for any event will arrive in the right condition. Should you find that any damage has been caused during transit, please notify us immediately and we will arrange for a suitable replacement to be delivered to you. Unlike regular deliveries, we try and avoid Cheese Cake deliveries on a Friday, because we do not like to risk a cake not arriving in good time for a weekend event. If you would like delivery on a Friday, we will do everything we can if there are delivery issues, but at times these can be outside our control. It is your liability if you request delivery on a Friday and understand this is not a guaranteed delivery.

If planning ahead for an event, then please choose an ideal delivery date in the box provided at checkout. We will always email and confirm your order. Please ensure for crucial events, such as weddings, birthdays or a party that you allow your order to reach you at least two days prior to the event. If delivery is to your home address, please ensure your order reaches you two days before leaving for any event where travel is involved. We use a third-party courier and, although rare, delays can happen.

If delivery is direct to a venue, it is your responsibility to ensure your venue are aware of our delivery policy and delivery date of your order. It is your responsibility to liaise with your venue and to check yourself that your order has arrived safely on the day specified and the cheeses have been checked off and all the products are included and in good condition and have been refrigerated on the day of arrival.

Please note we use a 24-hour courier service so we will ship your order the day before your delivery date

You will become the owner of the goods you have ordered when they have been delivered to your chosen address. Once goods have been delivered to you or your venue they will be held at your own risk and we will not be liable for their loss or destruction. Risk of damage to or loss of the goods passes to you at the time of delivery to you

Tracking your order

When your parcel is sent from us to you, we send you a despatch email, and you will receive a text from DPD on the day of delivery.

We ideally need a call on the delivery date prior to 5pm if possible to help us track your order as efficiently as we can. If you have questions about the delivery of your order, after it has been dispatched, you may call our us on 01271 379944.
